Biography
Chris Pontius is an American soccer agent with Wasserman and a former professional player with more than a decade of experience in Major League Soccer. His representation profile is shaped by first-hand knowledge of the player pathway, from youth and college soccer through the MLS SuperDraft, senior professional contracts, national team opportunities and the transition into life after playing.
Before becoming an agent, Pontius was a standout at UC Santa Barbara, where he helped the Gauchos win the 2006 NCAA national championship. He was selected seventh overall by D.C. United in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft and went on to play for D.C. United, the Philadelphia Union and the LA Galaxy. His playing career included an MLS All-Star selection, MLS Best XI honors, the 2016 MLS Comeback Player of the Year award and appearances for the United States men’s national team.
At Wasserman, Pontius works within one of the largest global soccer representation platforms, connected to players, clubs and markets across North America and abroad. His background gives him a practical understanding of MLS roster rules, player development, contract timing, injuries, form cycles, club fit and the pressures athletes face during different stages of their careers. Pontius’s profile reflects a modern former-player agent model: combining professional experience, player empathy, club relationships and agency infrastructure to support athletes through contracts, career decisions and long-term development.
