He brings over a decade of experience in professional hockey representation, having worked with players at every level—from junior and NCAA to the NHL. After serving nine years in the U.S. Army—including three combat tours in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot—he transitioned into player representation in 2013, bringing military-grade discipline, leadership, and execution to the business of hockey. Over the past 10+ years, Cooney has successfully negotiated contracts across the NHL, AHL, and ECHL, and developed a reputation for his strategic, data-driven approach to career management. He specializes in long-term planning, contract positioning, and identifying underutilized talent in overlooked markets. Based in Buffalo, New York, he oversees all agency operations and leads recruiting and development across North America, with a particular focus on Ontario. He remains directly involved with every client and is available 24/7.
