Matthew Cooley earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Coaching Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013, followed by a Master of Science in Sports Management in 2014. A graduate of Quitman High School, where he completed his secondary education in 2009, Cooley developed a strong foundation in athletics and sports leadership that has shaped his career in football and athlete development. Cooley's football experience began as an offensive tackle at Quitman High School, where he played from 2005 to 2009. One of the defining moments of his playing career came during his senior season when his team secured a first-round playoff victory over Stone County after improving from a 2-8 record during his sophomore year to a 9-1 finish. He credits that turnaround as a testament to the team's commitment to changing the culture of the football program through hard work and perseverance. Following his playing career, Cooley transitioned into coaching and sports administration. He served as an offensive line coach at Hattiesburg High School from 2012 to 2014 while also gaining experience in recreational sports and intramural activities. His background as both a player and coach has given him a well-rounded understanding of athlete development, leadership, and the demands of competitive football. Outside of his professional career, Cooley is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., having been initiated into the Theta Eta Chapter in 2011. He enjoys attending live sporting events, traveling, graphic design, music, automobiles, and collecting shoes. A lifelong football enthusiast, he has long admired the 1999 Tennessee Titans, Steve McNair, and Tony Dungy, while today he follows the Tennessee Titans and has been inspired by Derrick Henry and Eric Bieniemy. His personal philosophy is reflected in the quote, “Those who watch the wind will not sow,” emphasizing the importance of taking action rather than waiting for perfect circumstances.
